Features
The Touareg is an exclusive and innovative off-road vehicle.
Its hallmarks include outstanding on-road and off-road driving characteristics, permanent electronically-controlled four wheel drive, double wishbone suspension, and (depending on specification) full air suspension. The engine lineup includes high-torque petrol and diesel units with five, six, eight or ten cylinders.

Named after a people of the Sahara - known as the knights of the desert. They are famed for their traditions, pride, intelligence and dignity, together with their ability to adapt to difficult conditions.

The Touareg is 4.75 metres long, 1.93 metres wide, 1.72 metres high and riding on a 2.86 metre wheelbase. The Touareg is firmly positioned in the luxury off-roader segment, and combines the best of three worlds - crossover vehicle, off-road vehicle and sports-luxury car.
The Touareg is a full-blooded off-road vehicle.
Power is distributed through a transfer box with low ratio reduction, and locking differentials.

The electronically controlled multi-plate clutch can transfer up to 100% of the tractive force to either the front or rear wheels, and the center differential lock (and optional rear differential lock) can be activated manually.

Overhangs are short, and with ground clearance of up to 300mm and a wading depth of 585mm the Touareg is particularly suited for off-road use. It will climb a one-in-one slope and can tilt to 45 degrees without rolling.
Luxurious on-roader
The Touareg is an agile and safe vehicle for all types of journeys.

Double wishbone suspension with a noise-insulated sub frame give it the noise and comfort levels of a luxury car, coupled with the precision of a sports vehicle.

Pneumatic suspension (depending on specification) and continuous damping control give the car an unprecedented level of suspension comfort - both on and off-road. Sports or comfort suspension settings are selectable by the driver.

The fully galvanized body is extremely stiff, providing the basis for the Touareg's high level of comfort and ride quality, as well as its off-road security. The interior, in the style of the Phaeton, is designed and equipped to reflect top-class luxury.

Crashworthiness and safety equipment meet the toughest standards. The Touareg does not have an aggressive off-road design and uses non-metal front wings and an aluminium bonnet, thus protecting other vehicles in the event of a collision. Passive safety features include front, side and curtain airbags, active front head restraints and three-point belts for all seats.
ABS brakes, TCS (traction control system) and ESP (electronic stability program) are all standard fitments, providing the safety level of the best passenger cars.

Multi-functional business and leisure vehicle
The Touareg is a multi-functional business and leisure vehicle. Luggage capacity is variable between 555 and 1570 litres, loaded through a large tailgate with a window that opens separately. A 3.5 tonne towing capacity coupled with high-torque engines, permanent four wheel drive, fully automatic drivetrain control and off-road gear ratio reduction mean that the Touareg is a vehicle of immense versatility.
The Touareg is available with the option of two petrol engines - a 3.6 V6 and 4.2 V8 - both featuring advanced FSI direct injection technology. Three diesel engines are available for Touareg - 2.5L R5 TDI five cylinder, 3.0 V6 TDI and 5.0 V10 TDI, all featuring Diesel Particulate Filters. All engines meet the strict EU4 emission standards.

The V6 FSI engine produces an impressive 206kW and up to 340 Nm of torque, while the V8 FSI produces 257kW of power.

The Touareg diesel engines are both powerful and economical. The 3.0 V6 TDI produces 165kW and 500Nm of torque, while consuming only 10.7L/100km of diesel, on average. The V10 TDI is the world's most powerful passenger car diesel, producing 230 Kw (313 bhp) and an impressive 750 Nm of torque at just 1800 rpm.

Standard on all models is a six-speed automatic transmission.
